METRON, a digital energy management solution
Groupe Pochet, a key partner of the luxury and beauty industry for four hundred years, uses the METRON solution to manage all its energy consumption (gas, water, electricity). This cutting-edge digital management solution enables Groupe Pochet to reduce not only its own carbon footprint, but also that of its customers, including Chanel, the company behind the project. This 100% French industrial partnership between a luxury house, a multi-centenary industrial group, and a cleantech flagship offers a concrete and immediately applicable solution to reduce the environmental impact of the luxury and beauty industry.
Chanel and Groupe Pochet have joined forces to reduce the environmental impact of the luxury and beauty industry.
Groupe Pochet and Chanel share a commitment to reducing the carbon footprint of the manufacture of perfume bottles and skincare containers. Thanks to the solution from METRON, a French cleantech company specializing in digital energy efficiency solutions to decarbonize industry, Groupe Pochet has reduced the energy consumption of its gas-fired annealing arches, important machines in the production of glass bottles, by 27%.
This collaboration between three players committed to energy management will enable Chanel to reduce emissions from its value chain (scope 3), in line with its climate commitment program, “Chanel Mission 1.5°.” This is how Chanel got Groupe Pochet, its supplier of high-quality perfume bottles and skincare containerss, to collaborate with METRON. This initiative benefits all Groupe Pochet customers.
In fact, since 2021, Groupe Pochet has defined an ambitious decarbonization plan that will make the group the first French glassmaker to equip itself with an electric furnace technology for Luxury bottles. This electric furnace will be operational at the end of 2024. Electric melting technologies will make it possible to produce glass that is largely carbon-free, while retaining the brilliance and transparency that are the hallmarks of Pochet glass.
This decarbonization plan also includes more than 40 projects covering 91% of the Pochet Group’s current CO2 emissions, which will halve these emissions by 2033.
A 100% French industrial partnership between a luxury house, a multi-centenary industrial group, and a cleantech flagship
The METRON solution was tested at Groupe Pochet’s glass plant in Guimerville, Seine-Maritime. This industrial site, specialized in the manufacture of glass bottles and containers for the luxury goods industry, employs 1,600 people and produces a million bottles a day. This is the site where Chanel perfume bottles are produced. Thanks to hundreds of data sensors throughout the production chain, METRON’s real-time energy consumption visualization solution makes it possible to measure, standardize, and optimize energy consumption during the production of each bottle/container. Following this successful experiment, the METRON solution is now being deployed at Groupe Pochet’s 7 other French industrial sites.
In this way, Groupe Pochet can control its energy performance down to the last bottle, and deliver to luxury brands a product whose environmental quality is optimized for each item. Drawing on glassmaking expertise dating back to 1623, Groupe Pochet is constantly innovating to improve and digitalize its centuries-old industrial processes.
This collaboration between a world-renowned luxury brand, an industrial group whose production is entirely located in France, and a French cleantech startup, winner of French Tech 2030, demonstrates the dynamism of French industry and its ability to work together to offer industrial innovations that benefit the environment.
